MCP config

Cursor, Hermes Agent and other hosts that start local (stdio) servers use the same config as Claude Desktop. On Windows, change the command from npx to npx.cmd.

jsonMCP config
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "geardex": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "--yes",
        "--package",
        "https://github.com/dylandersen/geardex-public/releases/download/mcp-v0.2.0/geardex-mcp-0.2.0.tgz",
        "geardex-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "GEARDEX_STUDIO_API_KEY": "gdx_live_REPLACE_ME"
      }
    }
  }
}

Key file

Some hosts cannot set environment variables. For these hosts, use --key-file, as in the Gemini setup.

  1. Copy your key.
  2. Run the Save the key command for your system. The command writes the key to ~/.local/share/geardex/studio-api-key.
  3. In your host, set the command below as the server command.
bashSave the key (macOS Terminal)
mkdir -p ~/.local/share/geardex && pbpaste > ~/.local/share/geardex/studio-api-key && chmod 600 ~/.local/share/geardex/studio-api-key
textSave the key (Windows PowerShell)
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force "$HOME\.local\share\geardex" | Out-Null; (Get-Clipboard).Trim() | Set-Content -NoNewline "$HOME\.local\share\geardex\studio-api-key"
bashCommand
npx --yes --package https://github.com/dylandersen/geardex-public/releases/download/mcp-v0.2.0/geardex-mcp-0.2.0.tgz geardex-mcp --key-file ~/.local/share/geardex/studio-api-key
