What is an ATA carnet general list?
An ATA carnet is an international customs document that lets professional equipment cross borders temporarily without paying import duties. Its general list names every item with a description, serial number, quantity, weight, value, and country of origin, and customs checks the gear against it on the way out and back in.
The carnet is due Friday. The serials are in four places.
A carnet application wants a line for every item: what it is, its serial, its weight, its value, and where it was made. For a camera package that's dozens of rows, usually typed by hand from receipts, stickers, and last year's list.
Customs compares the gear against that list, so a wrong serial or a missing item becomes a problem at the border, not at your desk.
GearDex already knows the serials, values, and weights. It builds the list from the kit, shoot, or loan, flags what's missing, and prints a clean PDF.
The general list, ready to sign.
The Carnet General List numbers every item with its trade description, serial, quantity, weight, value, and country of origin, totals them, and ends with the declaration and room for your signature and the customs stamp.
- From a kit, a shoot plan, or a loan
- Leaving and back dates on the list
- Country of origin saved on every gear type
A travel list for the airline and the insurer.
Switch to Travel List for the same gear with insured value and valuation basis, on a page you can hand to a check-in desk, a fixer, or your insurer. Items without a serial are marked, so you can fix the record before you fly.

Count it out, count it back.
Before you leave a location, run a wrap check against the same gear: scan or tap each item, mark anything missing, and finish with All back or Back with an issue. Missing gear gets a flag straight away.
- Wrap checks from the shoot's packing page
- Spot checks for a case or a shelf
- Pick up an unfinished check on another phone

A carnet is a customs document that lets you take professional equipment into a country temporarily without paying import duties. It's issued by a national chamber of commerce or carnet service, and it lists every item on a general list.
No. GearDex builds the general list you attach to your carnet application, and a travel list for everything else. The carnet itself comes from your national issuer.
From each item's record. If it's missing, the carnet dialog flags it and you can fill it in there, one item at a time or the same for all, and it's saved for next time.
Pro and Studio. Both PDFs work from a kit, a shoot plan, or a loan.
