A general household inventory can store a photo and a price. GearDex also understands camera bodies, lenses, mounts, filters, drones, reusable rigs, shoot plans, studio loans, and maintenance. That photography-specific structure is what keeps a working kit useful after the first catalog pass.
Why not a spreadsheet?
Google Sheets and Apple Notes are free and flexible. They don't know what a lens mount, a warranty, or a loan is, so every one of those becomes a column you maintain by hand. And the older gear apps, like MyGearVault, stopped shipping updates years ago.

Yes. GearDex supports CSV imports for cameras, lenses, accessories, filters, and drones, with downloadable templates and row-level validation. Everything can be exported: a full account ZIP with files, JSON records, or CSV for all gear or one gear type.
GearDex can keep serial numbers, receipts, photos, values, and supporting documents together and can produce inventory records for an insurance conversation. It does not provide insurance or guarantee that a claim will be covered.
